Keen on Quinoa

Rinpoche Eats Clean Food: Part 1

“Rinpoche, you haven’t touched your food. And it’s your favourite seafood stew.”

“Daddi, I’m only eating clean food.”

“The stew is very fresh, Rinpoche – straight out of the tin. And your food bowl is clean. I wash it every day.”

“No, Daddi. I want natural food that hasn’t got any bad things added to it. I don’t want protest food.”

“Do you mean processed food?”

“Yes, Daddi. Besides, I’m gluten intolerant.”

“No, you’re not, Rinpoche. You’ve never had any problems with gluten before. In any case, there’s no gluten in the fish stew.”

“How can I be sure, Daddi? Read out the ingredients to me, please.”

“If you insist. The label says: ‘No additives, preservatives or colourants. Made from sustainable seafood. May be traces of nuts…’”

Nuts, Daddi??”

“You’re not allergic to nuts, Rinpoche. Actually, as far as I know, you’re not allergic to anything.”

“I’m not taking any chances, Daddi. Give me something else instead. And no protest food, please! I want something that will detox my body and encourage kharmic cleansing.”

“Would you like a nice bowl of cream?”

“Of course not, Daddi. Gwyneth says lactose is bad for me.”

“Who’s Gwyneth?”

“The new cat that moved into the house across the street. She’s my best friend and my dietician.”

“Well what does Gwyneth suggest that I give you for supper?”

“She’s very keen on quinoa, Daddi. She recommends that I try mixing it with kale and chia seeds.”

“I don’t think you’re going to enjoy that very much, Rinpoche. But it’s your decision. I’ll see if Mummi has any in the house.”
